Trust and Confidence in the Lord

Throughout my life, I have struggled to find my place and discover my talents. I have tried many different things, including friend groups, sports, music, books, video games, and more. I often ask myself this: Is this my purpose in life? Is this what God designed for me to do as a follower of Christ? In everything I do, how can I please and honor Him through my gifts and the obstacles that I have to overcome?

Everyone goes through some kind of obstacles - whether it’s moving schools or experiencing a personal loss. One of the biggest obstacles that I faced in life was battling my Ulcerative Colitis (UC) symptoms. During that time, I lost all of my trust and confidence in the Lord. I remember thinking: Is my purpose in life just to suffer in misery, or am I meant to be a light to others?

After my UC symptoms settled down, I decided to change my perspective on life. I made the choice to trust and rejoice the Lord. I now believe God has a plan and purpose for me - to serve others wherever I go, from school, church, and beyond.  I still haven’t figured out my true gift in Christ and how I will use it during my senior year and after high school, but as Christian, we may not always understand God’s callings. Still, we are called to obey and trust Him.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible, Proverbs 3:5, tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding.” This reminds us to give our struggles and challenges to Jesus, even when we don’t fully understand His plan.

Another important part of following God’s purpose is having confidence in Him - knowing that He will provide us with the resources and courage we need to trust in Him fully.

2nd Corinthians 7 says that “we need to rejoice because we can have complete confidence in God.”

As I get closer to my senior year, I look back at all the blessings God has provided to me through the darkest valleys of my life. It has allow me to grow in confidence and trust in Christ.

Things to Consider:

  • How can your gifts and talents help you to trust in the Lord?

  • How can you be confident in the Lord in every challenge you face?
