Our Sweet, Steadfast God
New Year, New me??? I can’t remember a January where I didn’t make “New Year Resolutions” goals that I was SO determined to follow and conquer before the next New Year rolled around. Every year my goals were similar: dig deeper into the Bible, get heathier, and maybe some goals about getting a boyfriend when I was in high school (silly I know). By the end of the year or if I’m being completely honest by March, my goals were already going downhill. I would fill up my time with other things instead of reading my Bible, I would rather lay around and watch movies instead of spending time on walks or outside, and the goals went down faster than the Titanic (I haven’t even seen the movie but I’m sure we still get the reference). Even when our plans for the year go down, even when our goals get butchered within 2 months of starting them, even when we make mistakes that ripple down and cause more mistakes- we have a steadfast God that we can depend on; that will never change or give up on us no matter what.
Psalm 63:3 says, “Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.”
God is unwaveringly (steadfastly) pursuing us, giving us grace, forgiving us, loving us unconditionally, and more!!!! How do we respond to this? By laying down the lofty goals, trusting Him with what’s next, and praising Him in every circumstance without ceasing. And hey this is directly from the Word- we see in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 the command- “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
With all of this said, what are you going to do with your 2026? Maybe you feel like those goals you set just a few weeks ago are already unattainable. Don’t cancel your big dreams and goals for 2026 but let’s hold them open-handed and praise God through it all because our goals may change but our God doesn’t. Afterall, He is our sweet steadfast God.
Things to consider:
Are my goals honoring to God?
What needs to change in my life to best follow what scripture says in 1 Thes. 5:16-18?
How can I encourage others to depend on God this year?
Love you!
